Traction Project Space

Traction is an artist-led project space developed by artist/curator Erika Cann. The gallery's focus is to develop ideas and to provide experience and support for emerging artists, showcasing high quality, critically engaged, contemporary visual art to a diverse audience in Exeter’s city centre.

The street-facing window gallery is situated within EP Sidwell St (184-187 Sidwell St, Exeter) and is supported by Exeter Phoenix and Positive Light Projects.

Set in the left hand side of the building's windows, the gallery provides a flexible space to test new ideas and present work in all formats, in a 24/7 accessible location.

How Can I Stay? Setting up freedoms at B-side festival

A day-long residency for creatives organized by Visual Arts South West in September 2024.

Through a series of workshops, socials, and a drop in residency space, creatives were invited to explore ways of using temporal space/time to make connections, ideas, art, and new forms of liberation.

Co-curated with Alix Emery, B-Side and Visual Arts South West.

Creative Roaming Walks

Creative Roaming walks for Exeter Phoenix's Social[practice] program.

Exploring ideas of boundaries, observation and roaming both in a creative sense and in the landscape, we shared discussions about our creative practices as a form of slow networking, connection building, and practice development.

Each walk took us to a different location in Exeter or the surrounding area, and introduced us to different environments - both natural and urban, familiar and hidden.

We chatted, shared snacks, made impromptu and temporary artworks, met new people and enjoyed time spent outside thinking about art.
